Question: What is the point of registering a video game?

Most of the video games I have bought lately come with a registration code. What is the point of registering?

Thats a very good point for the most part it really does nothing cause even if anything happens to your video game 99% of places unless you purchase protection on it will not do anything for you. I guess they just want you to feel like your protected? Or maybe its another way for them to get info outta you. Or maybe to spam your email account.....

To prevent pirating. It doesn't work, but it helps them.
